Baffin Fisheries Elects First Woman as Chair

March 27, 2024 – IQALUIT, NUNAVUT – The Board of Directors of Baffin Fisheries is
pleased to announce it has elected Kelly Kilabuk, of Pangnirtung, as Chair of the Board.
Kelly is the first woman to hold the position.
Others elected to various board positions are:
• Jimmy Akavak, Vice-Chair
• Sandy Kautuq, Secretary Treasurer
• Roger Etuangat, Chair, Finance Committee
• Billy Merkosak, Chair, Human Resources Committee
Ms. Kilabuk has served on the board since January 2023, and previously served a term
on the Board in 2020.
“Thank you to all the board members at Baffin Fisheries for showing confidence in me,
and offering their support at this important time in the Company’s history,” Ms. Kilabuk
said. “We are about to deliver to Nunavut the largest fishing vessel in Canada, and also
about to significantly increase royalty payments to our owner communities. I realize
there is a lot of hard work ahead, and I look forward to taking on the challenge to
delivery much needed jobs and benefits to our communities.”
Background
Baffin Fisheries is the leading commercial fishing enterprise in Northern Canada,
harvesting more than 10,000 tonnes of Greenland Halibut (turbot) and cold-water
shrimp annually. Through its operating subsidiaries Niqitaq Fisheries and Baffin
Seafood, the Company markets its products around the world, processing wild,
sustainable seafood from pristine Arctic waters, for the benefit of Nunavut.
Baffin Fisheries is owned by five Inuit Hunters and Trappers Associations: Amaruq HTA
(Iqaluit), Pangnirtung HTA (Pangnirtung), Mayukalik HTO (Kimmirut), Mittimatalik HTO
(Pond Inlet), and Nangmautaq HTO (Clyde River). The Company has offices in Iqaluit,

Fleet
Baffin Fisheries owns 100% of its fleet of three factory fishing vessels, including two
