Baffin Fisheries is Hiring a Captain

Baffin Fisheries a 100% Inuit owned company, and largest fishing enterprise in Northern Canada, has an immediate opening for an experienced Captain for our factory-freezer multi-species trawler Sivulliq.   The successful candidate will be responsible for safe navigation, crew leadership, fishing operations, and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations.

Qualifications:

The successful applicant must have experience and knowledge of the following:

• Fishing operations on an offshore otter trawling / freezing vessel
• Deep Sea Fishing Winch Systems
• Single and Double Trawl Operations
• Lead and supervise Deck Crew during fishing operations
• Strong leadership and communication skills
• Knowledge of marine safety procedures and navigation systems
• Ship Safety Program with commitment to HSE

Requirements:

The successful applicant must hold the following valid certification:

• Transport Canada - Fishing Master, First Class
• Transport Canada - MED’s / STCW Endorsements
• Transport Canada - Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Training for Personnel on Ships Operating in Polar Waters
• Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada - Certificate of Proficiency General Operator Certificate GOC- GMDSS
• Transport Canada - Certificate for Marine Advanced First Aid
• Transport Canada - Marine Medical
• Transport Canada - Seaman’s Book
• Passport

Rotational work which includes working in port with members of the opposite rotation as required. Leadership in safety, sustainability and performance are highly valued and highly rewarded.
