Baffin Fisheries has an immediate opening for a FIRST MATE with experience in factory-freezer multi-species trawling. The successful candidate will be responsible for safe navigation, crew leadership, fishing operations, and ensuring compliance with maritime regulations.
Qualifications:
The successful applicant must have experience and knowledge of the following:
- Fishing operations on an offshore otter trawling / freezing vessel
- Deep Sea Fishing Winch Systems
- Single and Double Trawl Operations
- Lead and supervise Deck Crew during fishing operations
- Strong leadership and communication skills
- Knowledge of marine safety procedures and navigation systems
- Ship Safety Program with commitment to HSE
Requirements:
The successful applicant must hold the following valid certification:
- Transport Canada - Fishing Master, Second Class (FM II)
- Transport Canada - MED’s / STCW Endorsements
- Transport Canada - Certificate of Proficiency in Advanced Training for Personnel on Ships Operating in Polar Waters
- Innovation, Science and Economic Development Canada - Certificate of Proficiency General Operator Certificate GOC- GMDSS
- Transport Canada - Certificate for Marine Advanced First Aid
- Transport Canada - Marine Medical
- Transport Canada - Seaman’s Book
- Passport
Work is rotation based, and includes working in port with members of the opposite rotation as required. Leadership in safety, sustainability and performance are highly valued and highly rewarded.
